New Cancer Resource Center opens in October

Lenoir Memorial was recently selected by the American Cancer Society as one of only three organizations in North Carolina to receive special grant funding to support the operation of a Cancer Resource Center.  The Lenoir Memorial Cancer Center, located across from Lenoir Memorial, will be offering this new resource beginning October 7th.  The resource center, allows Lenoir Memorial to elevate the level of care and services offered to cancer patients.

Strokes are a serious threat to the health of Americans . . . even more so in Eastern NC where some of the highest stroke rates in the country are at our own backdoor.  Strokes can cause paralysis, loss of independence, and a wide range of heartache and difficulties for individuals and their families.  Often, stroke victims feel hopeless and out of connection with normal support systems.

Free Glucose Screening

In observance of National Diabetes Month a free Glucose Screening will offered to those wishing to be screened for diabetes.  Individuals 18 and older can come by to for a glucose screening and pick up information about diabetes, pre-diabetes and the importance of good self-management skills.  An appointment is not necessary.  Call Sandra Midyette, RN, CDE for more information about this community event.

Mammography Screening

Women who qualitfy receive a free screening mammogram and education about breast self-exam.  To qualify, you must be a woman between the ages of 40-65, have no insurance to cover mammograms and never have had a mammogram. Preregistration is mandatory by calling 522-7014 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday - Friday.
