Stroke Support Group News

Strokes are a serious threat to the health of Americans . . . even more so in Eastern NC where some of the highest stroke rates in the country are at our own backdoor.  Strokes can cause paralysis, loss of independence, and a wide range of heartache and difficulties for individuals and their families.  Often, stroke victims feel hopeless and out of connection with normal support systems.  Wini Henderson OT assistant in Rehab Therapy at Lenoir Memorial believes that encouragement, patient, and support are exactly what's needed to help manage all of the issues after a stroke.  She has started the Discover Recovery Stroke Support Group and offers this group to anyone who needs support after the diagnosis of a stroke.  Her method incorporates the positive focus on "abilities and victories."  The group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 3 pm in the Minges Wellness Center classroom.  Individuals and their families and friends are warmly invited to attend and support one another on the stroke journey.  Wini Henderson can be contacted for more information at 252-522-7919.
